C'est parti!

So by now you've obviously heard my news: after three years in Mobile, I'll be spending the 2009-10 school year as an exchange teacher in France. And while that means something to some of you, many of you likely hear the word "France" and immediately envision this:

Which is all well and good, except, let me say this again... I'm not in Paris. I'm not far, mind you, but it's a significant difference. It's like saying New Jersey is "almost" New York. And here's what lives in my darkest nightmares:

But rationally, I know that's not the case. (And frankly, I was just looking for an excuse to watch that video again. It's like The Leprechaun-- never gets old.) Particuarly since I've already visited the town over spring break. So I guess we'll all learn about life there together. For now, here's what I know:

This is me. And this is my exchange partner. We're switching jobs, homes, friends and lives for the next year. I'll be teaching English to her students and she'll be teaching French to mine. (God love her.) It's not usual for partners to meet before the exchange happens, but I happened to be traveling in the region, so I got a sneak preview. Let me say up front that she is absolutely adorable, and my students are going to be so lucky to have her. She's very open to being here, very enthusiastic about the upcoming school year and eager to learn new things.

Wish us luck!
